What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy describes an overall natural approach to well-being, based on the
recognition of obstacles to health which are able to be reduced or removed in
an effort to allow the body to heal and recover naturally.
A Naturopath will work with you to understand these underlying causes to
poor health and help you to adjust your lifestyle and to supplement
appropriately in order to not only reduce symptoms but to promote better
long term health.
There are many modalities within the field of Naturopathy which all aim at help
you restore well-being and vitality so that you can enjoy life with optimal
energy and health.
Although each practitioner may use different modalities depending on their
area of expertise, all Naturopaths will focus on you as an individual, working
with the basic goal of giving your body the opportunity to heal naturally.
Common Naturopathic modalities include:
Nutrition:
This can include dietary changes to restore balance, supplementation of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, essential fatty acids and amino acids to compensate for deficiency or imbalance as well as the use of food as medicine.
Herbal medicine:
Practitioners prescribe either custom made liquid herbs, depending on your symptoms and the action of the plant.
For example, commonly prescribed herbs for stress conditions include Chamomile, Ginseng, Passionflower, Skullcap, Lemon Balm, St. John’s Wort and Zizyphus which would be taken at a dose of around 5 ml 2-3 x daily in a small amount of water or juice, depending on the severity of your symptoms.
Iridology:
Based on the study of the various structures and pigmentation patterns within the iris (coloured part of the eye) and their reflection of general health and areas of potential weakness within organ systems.
