A recent study found that just over a quarter of children outgrow their allergies by the time they are five years old. The study reported that it’s more common in those who:

  • Are allergic to milk, egg or soy (rather than shellfish, tree nut and peanut)
  • Presented with their first symptoms quite early in life
  • Had a history of only mild-to-moderate reactions
  • Reacted to only one food
  • Had eczema as their only symptom

Why some children overcome their allergies is not yet completely understood. One theory is that a child’s tolerance increases when they are exposed to low levels allergens while their immune system is still developing.

Those who have reactions in early childhood are also more likely to develop reactions to airborne allergens later in life, which can lead to eczema, hay fever and asthma (the “atopic triad” of symptoms). This may be due to overproduction of an antibody called immunoglobulin E (IgE) during infancy, the antibody responsible for dreaded allergy symptoms.

Natural allergy treatment

At Health & Wellness Australia & Auckland (HWA), our Naturopaths use a form of muscle testing (kinesiology) to help pinpoint the substances triggering your child’s allergy symptoms. Following this, we perform a natural allergy treatment called Positive Association Technique (PAT), which aims to reduce their reactions and symptoms.

PAT is a non-invasive holistic therapy, which:

  • draws on acupressure and kinesiology techniques
  • aims to re-train your body
  • may reduce your reactions to food and environmental substances that may be causing or exacerbating your symptoms.

Some cases can be complex, so our Naturopaths may also recommend supplements and herbs, and provide lifestyle advice to help you achieve the best long-term results.
