Prevent Skin Dryness this Autumn
It’s key to prevent skin dryness, as when your skin is dry and inflamed, it can also make your skin more reactive to allergy triggers. This is especially taxing in those with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
One of the main reasons autumn is so taxing on sensitive skin is because of the drop in humidity, which can cause skin dryness and inflammation.
Check out our top five tips to prevent skin dryness this autumn!
Manage allergy flare-ups
As we pull out warmer clothes and bedding (that may have been in storage since last winter!) it can expose us to allergy triggers like dust mites and moulds. So, a book a Positive Association Technique (PAT) session before the flare-up takes hold is a great way to nip any flare ups in the bud.
Keep your skin moisturised
A good quality, natural oil (like coconut oil, emu oil or primrose) may help to maintain elasticity and prevent trans-epidermal water loss, which can help prevent skin dryness.
Moisturise from the inside out
Increasing moisture-rich foods, such as leafy greens, water-rich fruits and healthy fats, can help prevent skin dryness. You should also avoid dehydrating substances such as alcohol, caffeine, dry meats and starches.
Nourishing soups and stews
Soups and stews are both nourishing and warming, making them ideal autumn meals. Bump up the nutrition content with a bone broth base, which includes skin-strengthening collagen and glutamine. At HWA, we love Marrow & Meadows Bone Broth Concentrate, which comes in a convenient jar and can be kept in the fridge for months.
Use a humidifier
To protect your skin against the dropping humidity levels, create your own humidity by using a humidifier. Humidifiers infuse more moisture into our offices or home environments, which gives our skin relief from the dry climate and increases hydration.
Our Natural Allergy Treatment
At Health & Wellness Australia & Auckland (HWA), our Naturopaths use a form of muscle testing (kinesiology) to help pinpoint your individual substance triggers. Following this, we perform a natural allergy treatment called Positive Association Technique (PAT), which aims to reduce your reactions and symptoms.
PAT is a non-invasive holistic therapy, which:
- draws on acupressure and kinesiology techniques
- aims to re-train your body
- may reduce your reactions to food and environmental substances that may be causing or exacerbating your symptoms
Some cases can be complex, so our Naturopaths may also recommend supplements and herbs, and provide lifestyle advice to help you achieve the best long-term results.
